EUSEW, the largest annual event in Europe dedicated to promoting secure, clean and efficient energy, is taking place this year between 9-11 June 2026.
Notably on Wednesday 10 June from 16:30-18h CET, there is a session on hydrogen titled “Shaping Europe’s hydrogen future: key priorities for a new EU strategy”. The session focuses on the central role renewable and low-carbon hydrogen have to play in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as industries, aviation, and maritime transport. Since the adoption of the EU Hydrogen Strategy in 2020, a comprehensive policy framework has been put in place to support the transition across the hydrogen value chain. However, the market has been developing more slowly than expected and the ramp-up of clean hydrogen faces several challenges. A renewed Hydrogen Strategy is therefore needed to scale-up hydrogen in Europe in a way that supports competitiveness, energy security and climate neutrality. To inform the new hydrogen strategy, the EUSEW session will address key questions, including:
- Which priorities should the new Strategy emphasise?
- In which sectors does hydrogen add the most value?
- What is a realistic trajectory for ramping up the hydrogen market?
- How can Europe scale up renewable and low-carbon hydrogen?
