TWG Hydrogen at the SET Plan Conference 2024

„Innovation with Hydrogen: Research, Policy, and Market Synergies“: Dr. Nadine May, Chair of the Temporary Working Group for Hydrogen discussed with experts Luigi Crema, Hydrogen Europe Research, Valerie Bouillon-Delporte, Clean Hydrogen Partnership, and István Lepsény, Hungarian Hydrogen Technology Association, moderated by Tudor Constantinescu, DG ENER, European Commission, on the developments in the hydrogen sector, opening the second day of the SET Plan Conference 2024 in Budapest, Hungary.

🌱 HydrogenValleys show how regional and national efforts can connect production and off-takers successfully.

🌱 The momentum of well-established collaboration between researchers and stakeholders from the public and private sector needs continuous support to keep them closely engaged.

🌱 Hydrogen in the energy system is a multi-level approach, technology has to be constantly improved, even in basic principles, to be competitive globally and cost-efficient.

🌱 Innovators are strongly encouraged to accelerate bringing ideas into the market, scaling up infrastructures and moving IP to the private sector to develop bankable technologies.

🌱 Hydrogen technologies as well as storage, infrastructure and grid have to advance, calling for further support in research and innovation as well as deployment.

At the SET Plan Conference 2024, 14 and 15 November 2024, the TWG and CSA SET4H2 members immersed themselves in the European SET Plan community:

🌱 Inspiring discussions throughout the panels with energy topics, research and innovation as well as market deployment. Lots to take away for the work of our future Implementation Working Group.

🌱 Key success factors in decarbonising Europe and for competitiveness and global technology leadership: Skills, circularity, AI and digitalization

🌱 Meeting researchers, policy makers and industrial experts, exchanging perspectives and views on national, European and global strategies as well as different energy technologies to advance to the European energy sector via the SET Plan has been truly inspiring.

🌱 Members of our Temporary Working Group for Hydrogen and SET4H2 consortium members discussed the cross-cutting issues that affect the decarbonisation of the European energy sector at the Cluster expert workshop. Lead by Anna Sobczak PhD and Vangelis Tzimas, implementation working groups and the European technology and innovation platforms (ETIPs) discussed priorities of the five newly formed task forces of the SET Plan which will shape the European energy R&I agendas, namely “access to market”, “circularity and materials substitution”, “R&I for societal needs”, “digitalisation”, and “skills”. The great collaborative atmosphere at this workshop was an inspiring kick-off to the whole conference.
